I’m not sure what it would take for Vladimir Legoyda to be truly heard and trusted in the West. Sadly, I’m afraid that even a public break with Patriarch Kirill might not be enough at this point.

You're right. Though it's worth keeping in mind that a sizable group of Orthodox Christians across various jurisdictions continues to regard the ROC—and Patriarch Kirill personally—with at least some sympathy as a truly conservative Church. Across America, he is still commemorated as "The Great Lord and Father Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia" in ROCOR parishes. And it is precisely this audience that Legoyda is signaling to.
